Members Meeting

Principal points

• Relatively fresh appointments to roles n the ADINJC's General Council:

  • Head of Business: Dan Hill

    • Associated with:

      • MyDriveTime app

      • The Honest Truth app

      • Road Safe Website

  • Head of Training: Tom Stenson

• Reductions in ADI's:

  • 2021-23: 13% reduction in ADIs  

  • 2023: reduction slowed, but still dropped from 40,000 to 39,550. 

• Lesson prices:

  • 2023: rose by 11.5% last year.

  • Highest prices in the South East and South West, the lowest in the North East and North West, but even there they are still over £30 per hour.  

• Satisfaction and hours worked:

  • 92% of ADIs are satisfied with their job

  • 28 hours teaching time per week (average)

• Number of ADI's Independent vs. Franchise  

  • 71% of ADIs are independent 

• 180,000 people wanting tests per month, but DVSA can only deliver 140,000 [Russell Jones]

• Waiting times: up to 24 weeks in many parts

  • Likely to be at least the middle of next year (2025) before there's any improvement

• Online presence is important, especially if referrals are dropping; link in to DVSA website

• Presentation by Charles Moffat, chair, on handling complaints and the process by which complaints submitted to DVSA are handled

  • Help through Premium membership:

    • One ADI sought advice from a solicitor and got a quote to meet, prepare and attend an interview with DVSA — £6,000.  Another had a quote for one letter of £800.  This demonstrates the value of our Premium membership.
